Description
Celebrate one of the standout Holden performances from the 1990 Tooheys Bathurst 1000 with this 1:18 scale Holden VL Commodore Group A SV, representing the Perkins/Mezera car that finished third at Mount Panorama.
The 1990 Bathurst 1000 was a landmark event for Holden fans. After a challenging 1989 campaign, the V8-powered VL Commodores returned with improved pace, stronger reliability, and a serious chance of victory. Larry Perkins and Tomas Mezera were among the key contenders, driving the No.11 Perkins Engineering VL Commodore Group A SV.
During qualifying, the car showed strong speed, earning a place in the Tooheys Top Ten Shootout and starting the race from seventh on the grid. As the 161-lap endurance classic unfolded, the naturally aspirated Holden became increasingly competitive while several turbocharged rivals struggled with tyre wear and additional pit stops.
Perkins and Mezera drove a calculated and determined race, moving into genuine contention for the win. At one stage, Mezera had built a commanding lead, but the race changed dramatically after a late Safety Car intervention. Poor timing around pit exit closure cost the team valuable track position, turning a potential victory into a hard-earned podium finish.
After more than six hours of racing at Mount Panorama, the No.11 VL Commodore crossed the line in third place. While the result was tinged with frustration, it remains remembered as a strong Bathurst performance from Perkins, Mezera, and the Holden VL Commodore Group A SV.
This limited edition 1:18 scale model is a fitting tribute to a memorable Holden Bathurst podium and an important chapter in Australian touring car history.
