Ford wanted a win and teamed up Allan moffat with a freshly lured Bruce McPhee to drive the two worked cars. McPhee was no stranger to Mt Panorama notching up five podium finishes since 1963 including a win in 1968 driving a GMH factory Monaro and the 2nd place in the XW in 1969.
