The 1970 Bathurst was dominated by the factory backed Ford XW Falcon GT-HO. Qualifying saw the factory cars lockout the first three positions on the grid, the experienced paring of Gibson and Seton in the 62E qualified third with a time of 2m53.6s. Both drivers had previous won at the mountain, Seton in 1965 and Gibson in 1967. The 62E was running well early in the race, but was forced to return with a differential problem after 33 laps.
